A DePauw University "Chapter of Excellence"

The Indiana Zeta chapter of Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity turned 146 in February of 2014. Established at DePauw University (then Indiana Asbury College) in the winter of 1868 – decades before the first dormitory - the chapter has initiated more than 2,000 DePauw men. Members pledge Friendship, Sound Learning and Moral Rectitude. It was recently recognized as one of the finest chapters of Phi Delta Theta Internationally with the "Gold Star" designation.

Phi Delta Theta was founded at Miami University in Oxford, OH in 1848. Along with Beta Theta Pi and Sigma Chi, they form The Miami Triad. From the original 6 founders, the fraternity now has nearly 170 active chapters in 42 states and five Canadian provinces. The Fraternity has initiated nearly 250,000 men and currently has more than 160,000 living alumni. There are over 100 recognized alumni clubs across the U.S. and Canada.

ΦΔΘ members or “Phis” have occupied every major public office including the presidency and vice presidency of the United States, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senators and Congressmen, State Governors and Senators in the Canadian House of Commons. Phi Delta Theta also holds the unique distinction of having Brother Neil Armstrong (Purdue) as the first man on the moon.

The current chapter house at the campus’ main Anderson Street entrance was built in 1926. A new addition was built in 1962 and major renovations occurred in the late 80s. The Trustees of the House Corporation are in the midst of a $1.25 million dollar upgrade to life safety, structural soundness and comfort.
